Shape & Size
Spanning some 90 ly north–south, it covers 10 × the area of the full Moon but has very low surface brightness.
Cygnus Wall
The “Gulf of Mexico” ridge is a dense front of star formation, glowing brightest in narrowband H α.
Dark Dust Lane
LDN 935 forms the “East Coast,” silhouetting the two nebulae against the rich Milky Way backdrop.
Observation Tips
Best seen under dark skies with UHC or H-beta filters.
Binoculars reveal a foggy patch; long-exposure photos bring out the full red outline.
SMorphology
The curved IC 5067 ridge frames the “pelican’s bill,” while IC 5070 makes up the broader body and neck. Active Star Formation
Young, massive stars sculpt the surrounding gas; jets from Herbig–Haro objects (e.g., HH 555) plow into cold dust, lighting up shock fronts.
Infrared Views
Spitzer and WISE images pierce the dust, revealing embryonic stars hidden from optical telescopes.
Observation Tips
Fainter than its neighbor; needs at least a small telescope plus a UHC/O III filter.
Near Deneb, it’s easiest to locate as a dim haze northeast of the star.
